AdventureSmart
Train-the-Trainer Workshop

The National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS), and the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada (SARVAC) are organizing a Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) Volunteer Workshop in Toronto, ON from October 2-4 2009

The aim of the workshop is two-fold. The primary objective is to provide approximately 130 SARVAC volunteers with the skills and information needed to become AdventureSmart Trainers and to build the capacity to deliver successful SAR prevention programs across Canada. The second objective is to solicit input and feedback from the attendees to address the issue of volunteer sustainability in ground search and rescue.

The National Prevention Strategy aims to provide broad public awareness and targeted outreach to reduce the frequency and severity of SAR incidents and AdventureSmart is a core component of this targeting outdoor recreationalists.

Additional information about this program is available at www.sarvac.ca and www.adventuresmart.ca.
