What is SARSCENE?
SARSCENE, an annual workshop, is Canada's only national event for
all search and rescue professionals. It is an annual conference featuring
presentations
from Canadian and International experts, about 60 exhibits, demonstrations,
games and special events.
Where and when will SARSCENE 2005 take place?
What will I see at SARSCENE 2005?
You will see presentations about such topics as:
- Prevention
- Interoperability and technology
- Cooperation between paid and volunteer SAR providers
- Leadership in SAR
- Success stories in SAR
- New Search and Rescue Initiatives Fund (NIF)
- COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system
- SAR in other countries
You will also see search and rescue demonstrations showcasing SAR techniques
and technology.
There will be about 60 exhibits with information on new products and
technologies.
Who attends SARSCENE?
SARSCENE attracts 600 to 700 participants from across Canada and
internationally, including federal government representatives (Canadian
Coast Guard, Department of National Defence, Meteorological Service of
Canada, Parks Canada, RCMP and Transport Canada); provincial and municipal
agencies and police involved in SAR operations; volunteers from ground,
air and marine search and rescue teams; international SAR providers; canine
handlers; and others.
How can I be a sponsor?
Sponsorship is a great way to raise the profile of your company in the
search and rescue field, and let delegates know that you support their

What if I want to attend SARSCENE for one
day only. Do you have daily rate?
No, we don't. However, if you and another delegate want to attend on different
days, you can use the same badge.
What if I only wanted to visit the trade show?
Can I get in for free?
If you are flexible, yes. You can get in for free on the trade show public
opening day, which is on Saturday morning from 8:30 until noon. And after,
on Saturday afternoon, you can attend also free of charge, the exciting
search and rescue demonstrations performed by the search and rescue specialists
with their impressive gear and vehicles.
Do you have special group prices?
No, we don't. But we do have special
prices for volunteers and also for early birds who register before
August 31.
Is there a way to attend SARSCENE without
paying the registration fee?
Yes, there is.
- You can get free registration if you are a speaker in one of the presentations.

- You can also display a booth in the trade show. The exhibitors' package
includes two free registrations to the workshop. If you are interested

- There are a limited number of free passes available to SARSCENE
volunteers at the discretion of the local host. If you are interested

Is the Awards Banquet ticket included in the registration
package?
No, the banquet ticket is a separate cost of $35 per ticket, when you
pre-register or on site at the Registration desk.
What is included in the registration package?
Your registration fee includes: a delegate badge which will give you access
to all workshop activities:
- Meet & Greet - dinner and a cash bar (Wednesday)
- Presentations
- Trade show
- Buffet breakfast at the Confederation Centre for the Arts (Thursday)
- Opening Ceremony and the Plenary Session
- Lunch in the exhibits (Friday)
- Morning breaks (food and beverages)
- Afternoon breaks (beverages)
- SAR demonstrations
What is not included in the registration package?
The awards banquet is not included and tickets ($35) are sold separately
when you pre-register or on site at the Registration desk. Friday night's
optional social activity is not included in the registration. Tickets
are on-site.
How about the SAR Games? Do I need to register
or can I just show up?
You need to register ahead of time and be part of a four-member team.
You can either join up an existing team or start your own. More information

gives me free SARSCENE registration?
No, you will need to register to SARSCENE separately.
Can I bring my SAR dog with me at SARSCENE?
Yes, you can but your dog will need to meet the requirements of the SARSCENE
hotel, which is usually to keep it on a leash at all times, not leave
the animal loose and alone in a hotel room, show proof of inoculations
and parasite prevention. If you stay in another hotel, you will need to
verify the specific hotel requirements. See hotel listings for SARSCENE.
Do you have any canine events?
Yes, we have a canine competition on Saturday, October 8. More information.
Can the media attend for free?
Yes, you can register in the Media Room. Your contact is the Media Relations
Coordinator.
If I register for myself, can my spouse/companion
accompany me?
SARSCENE does not have separate registrations for spouses or companions.
But there is a great deal to see and do in PEI and there will be tourism
information available on site or you can look on the PEI Tourism official
website.
Is SARSCENE workshop open to the public?
Since some sessions could be of interest to the public, anyone can register
as a delegate. There are also some activities that are open to the public
and they are free: the SAR games on Wednesday, the trade show on Saturday
morning and SAR demonstrations on the Saturday afternoon.
As a speaker, do I get free registration? What
if there are two of us giving the presentation, does my co-speaker also
get free registration?
Please note that it is the National Search and Rescue Secretariat's policy
to provide one free workshop registration to the principal presenter.
Any additional presenters are required to register as delegates for the
workshop.

Will NSS provide a list of SARSCENE workshop
registrants so I can contact them?
The NSS is unable to provide information about delegates in accordance
with federal policies for security of personal information. However, we
will provide a list of delegates at SARSCENE with the information
that appears on the delegates’ badges.
As a speaker, are any of my expenses paid by the
Secretariat?
Yes, you get your SARSCENE registration paid. However, other expenses
and fees incurred by presenters cannot be reimbursed by the National Search
and Rescue Secretariat. If you wish to find a sponsor, we will recognize
their support of your presentation at the workshop.
What are the SARSCENE Dress Guidelines for
Uniformed Participants?
To assist with ensuring "uniformity" amongst the various Military,
Police, Fire, Ambulance and other uniformed participants at SARSCENE,
the following guidelines are presented for your use.
- Workshops, Presentations, Exhibits, meetings - Uniform Dress of the
Day (work attire)
- Wed 1800 reception for international visitors - civilian business
casual attire
- Wed 1930 meet and greet - civilian casual attire
- Thurs 0900 Opening Ceremony - Uniform Dress of the Day (If a speaker:
tunic & tie; ribbons not medals) For playing of National Anthem
hats on and salute
- Sat 1900 Awards Banquet - Uniform tunic and tie; ribbons not medals
